Sequin Saturday Silk Caftan: “Connells” Jen Dress
The story behind the creation of the main piece of our collection is one rooted in Virginia, where Jennifer was raised and attended college. This is the story about how Jennifer created The Jen Dress. It all started with the desire to create the perfect silk caftan.
I was going to The Connells concert happening in a parking lot with friends from college and didn’t want to wear the same white jeans and top with sandals that has become the uniform. I saw this fabric that looked like it was a fun scarf and I decided to make it into a summer caftan, except when I was done, I had been swallowed in fabric and felt a bit boxy. So, I recut the dress it to accentuate my chest (just enough) and waist (just enough), threw in pockets (because the best dresses have pockets) and the rest is history. When it works, it REALLY works. At the end of the concert a woman came across the crowd and asked me “where did you get THAT dress? It’s amazing! I’ve been starring at you all night…and the rest is history.
